SetHero Alternatives (2026): Beyond the Call Sheet App

SetHero alternatives for productions that outgrew a call sheet app: script tools, budgets, client quotes and crew paperwork, with sourced prices for each.

By the CreativeBase team · Updated · 6 min read

SetHero is one of the best call sheet apps you can buy, and if call sheets are your only problem you should keep it. The SetHero alternatives worth a look are for productions that have outgrown a call sheet tool: StudioBinder or Studiovity if the missing piece is the script, and CreativeBase if you want the call sheet inside one system with the budget, the client and the crew paperwork.

In short: Keep SetHero for call sheets and production reports with overtime math. Move to StudioBinder or Studiovity for scripts and storyboards. Move to CreativeBase when the quote, the change orders, the crew W-9s and the invoice are the real mess.

We make CreativeBase. All competitor facts below were checked on each company's own site on October 3, 2026, and are linked.

What SetHero does well

SetHero is narrow on purpose. Its site lists:

Its StudioBinder comparison adds automatic overtime calculations and SAG-ready actor times on production reports. It also says plainly that people who need scriptwriting or breakdowns are better off with StudioBinder.

SetHero pricing, from its subscription page on October 3, 2026, with the selector at 5 projects a year: Starter $19 a month (up to 30 people and 4 days per project), Pro $49 (65 people, 8 days, up to 5 admins), Studio $129 (125 people, 12 days). Yearly saves 25%. There is a one-time price per project, your first project is free with up to 75 cast and crew and 5 shooting days, and students use it free.

Where a call sheet app runs out

A call sheet solves the morning of the shoot. The gaffer reads it at 6am, and that part SetHero does very well. Everything before it and after it still has to live somewhere.

The money lives somewhere else. The budget is a spreadsheet, the quote is a PDF made from it, the invoice is a third file, and the crew list on the call sheet is a fourth copy of the names. When the client adds a second location on Wednesday, three of those change by hand.

Creative prep has no home. SetHero has no shot lists or storyboards, by its own account.

Crew paperwork after wrap. Crew invoices, W-9s, and knowing who crossed the 1099-NEC line ($2,000 for payments from 2026, $600 before) happen outside a call sheet tool.

Many short jobs. Plans cap people and shooting days per project, and the price depends on how many projects you run a year. Fair for a call sheet service. A company running dozens of one-day jobs should check where its year lands.

Photo shoots and events. SetHero lists photo as a fit for Starter, and a call sheet works for a photo shoot. A looks list, a usage fee and a selects gallery are not part of it.

If none of these is your problem, stay.

1. CreativeBase: the call sheet inside a production system

You keep a call sheet you would recognise. One per shoot day, with job code, client logo, "Day N of M", location stops with parking and gate codes, crew in 11 departments with their own call times, and a run of show with work, meal and move blocks.

Weather, sunrise and the nearest hospital fill in when you add the location. A readiness bar flags what is missing or does not add up, like lunch past the six-hour mark or someone called after wrap. Each person gets an email with their own call time as the headline and confirms with one tap. Three PDF templates.

Around it sits the rest of the job:

Where SetHero is still better: production reports with overtime and SAG-ready actor times, a Movie Magic export, and per-project pricing. CreativeBase also has no script breakdown or storyboards.

Price: one plan, priced on a short call. Crew, clients and anyone you invite use it free. After the demo, your first production can be free, with no end date.

2. StudioBinder: if the missing piece is the script

Its pricing page lists screenplays, AV scripts, script breakdowns, stripboards that fill in call sheets, shot lists, storyboards, lookbooks, call sheets with tracking and analytics, and location management. Plans: Free, Starter $29 a month (1 user), Indie $49 (2 users), Professional $99 (4 users), with 15% off yearly and no free trial. No dedicated iOS or Android app, per its help center.

Trade-off: its plans do not list budgets, quotes or invoices. See CreativeBase vs StudioBinder.

3. Studiovity: scripted, for less

Studiovity lists AI-assisted screenwriting, storyboarding and script breakdown, scheduling, a call sheet generator, budgeting, shot lists, day out of days, and apps on iOS, Android and web, at $30 a month billed monthly for 2 team members.

Trade-off: built for scripted film. Nothing on its pricing page is about client quotes or photo productions.

4. Yamdu: bigger scripted shoots

Yamdu lists script breakdown, scheduling, call sheets, budgeting, shot lists and storyboards, time cards, and iOS and Android apps. Flex is $45 a month for 1 user and 1 project; Studio is $199 a month billed annually for 10 users and unlimited projects.

Trade-off: per-project pricing on Flex suits a few longer shoots, not dozens of short ones.

5. Celtx: if you write it too

Celtx is screenwriting first, with production planning (breakdown, schedule, budget, call sheets, reports) in Team at $44.99 a month billed yearly for up to 3 members, or as an add-on to Writer Pro. 7-day trial of paid features.

6. A Notion template: if you want to spend nothing

Notion has a free call sheet template on its free plan. It holds the information. It will not send each person their own call time or track who confirmed, which is most of what you were paying SetHero for.
