CreativeBase vs StudioBinder (2026): which fits your work

CreativeBase vs StudioBinder, job by job: call sheets, budgets, client quotes, crew paperwork, scripts and StudioBinder pricing, checked at the source.

By the CreativeBase team · Updated · 6 min read

CreativeBase vs StudioBinder comes down to where your work starts. StudioBinder is built around the script: write it, break it down, schedule it, send the call sheet. CreativeBase runs the whole production and the company behind it, from the pitch and the client quote to crew paperwork, the client portal and the final invoice.

In short:

  • Your work starts from a screenplay, a stripboard or storyboards: StudioBinder.
  • You make commercials, music videos, brand content, photo shoots or events, and the money, the crew and the client decide the job: CreativeBase.
  • Both send call sheets that crew confirm from a phone.

We make CreativeBase, so read with that in mind. Every StudioBinder fact here comes from its own pricing page, website and help center, checked on October 3, 2026. "Not listed" means we could not find it there. It may exist somewhere we did not look.

Where StudioBinder wins

Anything that starts from a screenplay. StudioBinder writes the script, breaks it down into cast, props, wardrobe and VFX, schedules scenes on a stripboard and fills the call sheet from that schedule. CreativeBase has free-text fields on each shot, and that is all. A narrative short with 40 scenes belongs in StudioBinder.

Storyboards and AV scripts. If your agency sends two-column scripts or you board every frame, StudioBinder has the tools. We do not.

Location management. StudioBinder tracks scouting notes and approvals per location. Our Places is a map with photos and access notes, without a scouting workflow.

A free way in. StudioBinder has a free plan. CreativeBase starts with a demo call.

Where CreativeBase wins

The money, in one chain

Build the budget from the AICP-style template (or the photo, event, or photo-and-video one, or your own spreadsheet). The client quote comes from it, with a production fee and a 10% contingency by default, checked against the budget line by line.

The client approves on a link. When they ask for a second location on Wednesday, you send a change order and they approve it before anyone loads a truck. The invoice comes from the same numbers. A cost report projects the final cost and margin while you can still do something about it.

One link for the client

The client portal is one private link per production, no account. It opens on what is waiting on the client: approve the quote or a change, review a cut, pick selects, see an invoice. Every decision is recorded with their name, the time and the exact figure or version. No more "which PDF did you approve?"

Crew, from the budget to the W-9

The Crew tab reads the budget: what is left to allocate, and which priced roles nobody holds yet, each with Book someone. Post a crew call on your Instagram story, or send an availability check to five gaffers and book the first yes.

Booked crew get a Crew Pass with only their own days. The same link collects their details, their invoice and a W-9 they fill in and sign in the browser. Message crew writes once to everyone, the confirmed, or one department, and a video call you add goes out as a real calendar invite.

Before the job and after the shoot

A pitch page shows the client your idea, the treatment and up to three price options. They approve one, and the pitch moves to Won. After the shoot, cuts go into review rounds with notes pinned to the second. Photo jobs get a selects gallery and a retouch board. Three reports per production: a client status report (never costs), a team cost report and a wrap report.

Photo shoots and events as real productions

A lookbook gets a looks list, a shoot day built from the looks and a quote with a separate usage fee. Events get their own kind, with event crew roles, a plan counted back from the event day and an event budget.

Grizzo

An AI assistant that reads your productions, budgets, crew and documents. Drop in the client's brief and it fills in a new production for you to confirm. It drafts the follow-up emails for you to review and send. Nothing changes until you press the button.
